“A man who assisted in autopsies in a big urban hospital, starting in the mid-1950s, describes the many deaths from botched abortions that he saw. “The deaths stopped overnight in 1973.” He never saw another in the 18 years before he retired. “That,” he says, “ought to tell people something about keeping abortion legal.”—“The Way It Was” — Mother Jones Magazine — Abortion before Roe v. Wade. (via extraterrestris)
Family traditions! We have a couple of them that originate from I’m not sure where but here it goes:
We celebrate a new baby’s 1/2 birthday. BIG- like, everyone shows up and there’s a party that doesnt end until the morning. The first birthday for some reason is less of a big deal for us.
We still take photos of our dead, posed up in coffins and whatnot. My family doesn’t want to let go of post mortem photography.
The passing down of my great-great grandmother’s wedding set. I literally can’t wait for that beautiful set to be mine! Traditionally in the family it is given to the oldest daughter on her wedding day to represent something old. We’re talking a show-shopper of a Victorian set, full of diamonds and memories.
Those are all I can really think of right now. There are a few other holiday based things but these are the more unique ones that I’m not sure anyone else really does.
I’m not sure if it really qualifies as a talent but I’m a master at manifestation. To the point of where it’s sometimes eerie- I’ve been doing it my whole life and didn’t really know there was a word for it until I was 22 when my best friend pointed it out.
Good one! I think my worst quality would probably be my totally chill approach to crisis or conflict. It often gets read as apathy and generally just not caring about the issue at hand. Really what I’m trying to do is remove myself from the issue enough to understand and act accordingly. My best example of when this could be a major problem is when a friend is upset with me or someone else. I usually let people chill out for a few days before contacting them but it ends up coming off like I don’t care at all. I should totally try to find a happy medium with this.
